One of the most powerful ways to move from doing to being, is with the deep conscious breath. We breathe in life, breathe out.
We move out of our head, into our body. We move from our sympathetic (fight/flight response) to our parasympathetic (I am safe) system. Our body is a beautiful constellation of millions of cells, an energy system, that remembers, what our mind has forgotten, If we injure ourselves, it will often acclimate and come to a different balance, in order to minimise pain. We build up tolerance to stress, overloading our system, until the proverbial needle that breaks the camels back. We overreact. Seek relief and when we find it, with something outside of us, we then, re-cycle, through the same loop, building up our tolerance to the pain alerting us to the fact, something isn't right. In the process we become more isolated from ourselves, what's real and consequently isolated from others. This is addiction. Doing the same thing, and expecting different results. I agree with Einstein, in that you cannot solve a problem at the level at which it was created. You fight fire with fire, and you get a bigger fire. Water is used to put a fire out. Symbolically water represents our em(oceans) and is all about being. To heal, we need to feel what we didn't allow ourselves too in the past, however recent and/or distant. Our feelings are most easily, truly accessed through our body. The accumulation of them, through a life of running from them, will often lead to a sense of overwhelm when we first stop running (doing). It is for this reason, that it is helpful to see a therapist, join a group (like the anonymous community or smart recovery), and find a safe space to be emotionally honest. Feel free to reach out with any queries you may have. warmly, Xanthe
